Wynkoop Rail Yard Ale

Beer Name: Rail Yard Ale
Brewery: Wynkoop Brewing Company, Denver CO

Style: Red Ale
ABV: 5.2%

Overall: 4

Denver CO, what a great town, my wife and I were visiting some family members who lived near by and in a brochure I spotted Wynkoop Brewing Company. Of course I had to go, and I am glad that we did. It took a bit to navigate the Denver downtown but the beer was well worth the wait. The head was fluffy and stood well. Smelling lightly hopped with a subtle sweetness. This beer starts hoppy and has an october fest type feel to it. It finishes with a odd but pleasant light apple flavor, really unexpected but very good throughout. Amongst Wynkoop's other oddities is a pepper beer made of chili's, super weird but defiantly different. I would highly recommend stopping by for a sandwich and some of their flagship ale if you are ever in Denver.

Leinenkugel's Oktoberfest

Beer Name:  Leinenkugal's Oktoberfest

Brewery: Leinenkugel Brewery Chippewa Falls WI
Style: Oktoberfest
ABV: 5.10%
Overall: 3.5

Historically for me Leinenkugal has never been a good beer, I have tried several but really only liked the berry weiss when I was like 17 and did not really like beer. That said I do enjoy a good Oktoberfest beer. I first tasted this beer during a motorcycle trip to our vacation cabin in upper Wisconsin. Truthfully it was a great trip, until the end when we got rained on. Anyhow during the trip we stopped in Chipawa falls for their Oktoberfest. It was a traditional Wisconsin festival fun, unpretentious, and relaxing, One guess what beer was on tap? I enjoyed this beer directly from the tap and it went well with my sausage and sauerkraut. After I returned home and had the opportunity to try it again i was less impressed. I suppose that i really was in love with the experience around the beer and not really the beer itself. taking a whiff this beer smells a bit hoppy though faint. It appears red in color, has a hoppy flavor with a slight dryness. One charactaristic that stood out to me was the fizzy mouth feel, which was followed by a smooth ending. I have to say I enjoyed that contrast. Don't get me wrong i do like this beer, but it is not my favorite for the autumn.
